We're Getting Very Close-League Table-270220

We’re Getting Very Close Now

Take a look at the league table below. It doesn’t need me to remind you that we’re getting very close now. But take a look at the table anyway. How impressive is that. A good friend of mine, who happens to be a Sunderland fan, suggested I take an image of the league table while it is still looking so good. For nostalgic reasons and all that. Something to look back in time. As it’s now on my website, it will serve as a permanent reminder. Thanks for the suggestion Russ.

We’re Getting Very Close Now

And of course, that table may get even better. It could of course not look so good, so to be on the safe side I’ll capture the image now while it does look so impressive. I hope that’s not tempting fate.

In total we need four more wins to guarantee number 19. Just a side note here. It winds me up when pundits etc say our first Premier League title. What’s that all about!! Since when did being champions of your country become two different competitions? The old First Division and then the Premier League are both one and the same competition (for want of a better word) aren’t they?

Look at Scotland for instance. Both Celtic and Rangers have been Scottish Champions about a zillion times each. Are their title successes split between the old Scottish First Division and the Scottish Premier League? Nope, not at all. So, enough about the first Premier League title. It’s Number 19 we are (hopefully) closing in on.

We’re Getting Very Close Now – Still Cautious?

As mentioned above we need four wins maximum from our last eleven games to ensure we are Champions. And that is assuming Manchester City win all of their games. We may not need four wins as it happens. But to be prudent let’s work with four. Looking at our remaining fixtures we should do it. Let’s hope so and let’s hope other issues don’t conspire against us.

Why the word (hopefully) in brackets above? Well for one, it ain’t over until the fat lady sings as they say. If that philosophy is good for Jurgen and the team then it gets my vote as well.

But, results aside there’s a hidden, major world event going on that may have an effect on sporting events everywhere. I’m talking of course of the world pandemic Coronavirus. Will it affect our title push? At this stage no one knows.

As it happens the league table above was before Leicester’s game last night. Their 1-1 draw with Norwich means one more win for us puts Leicester completely out of the picture mathematically. So, only Manchester City will be able to catch us if we win tonight against Watford.

Or should that be, only Manchester City or Coronavirus? We all certainly hope not. In short, let’s get the job done as soon as we can. If there is any extra motivation needed for tonight’s game, then that may well be it.

We’re Getting Very Close Now – But We’re Lucky Aren’t We?

Yes, some will try and have everyone believe that we’ve been lucky this season. So, as we’re getting very close now we should all take stock and realise how fortunate we’ve been.

What a load of old crock. Anyone who subscribes to that theory needs to give their head a wobble!!! So, ex-West Ham striker, Carlton Cole, go give yer head a wobble. He was spouting the other night about how weak the league was. We’ve been lucky etc. West Ham should have beat us. And so on.

Anyone remember the season Manchester United won it with what seemed to be a long stretch of 1-0 wins with Cantona scoring the winner. Were they lucky? I’m not sure, I can’t remember. Does it matter if they were? Not really. Would their fans be bothered if they were? Not at all.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not having a pop at our neighbours. Far from it. More having a pop at the pundits and media etc. But of course so many armchair fans take what the pundits say and what they read in the media as gospel.

Are Real Madrid Still Worldbeaters?

Did anyone watch anything of the Real Madrid v Manchester City game the other night? Fair do’s to Citeh for their win. But what about Real Madrid? Are they the force they used to be? To many, definitely not. Any mention of that in the media or by pundits after their defeat to Citeh. Well, I didn’t see any mention.

Rightly so, all credit to Citeh for their victory. Were Citeh ‘lucky’ to be playing Real Madrid when they are so apparently so much weaker than Madrid sides from days gone by? Who cares if that is the case.

And yet we get the likes of Carlton Cole trying to convince people that we are where we are because the Premier League is so weak in comparisons to previous years. Yes, of course 106 points out of 108 on offer is all down to luck, a weaker league and VAR of course isn’t it. What a balloon!!

Anyone see the Chelsea v Man Utd game? No, questionable VAR decisions in that game were there!.! Or, in any other games for that matter. Even though we are not top of the table of beneficial VAR decisions, that doesn’t matter. VAR has greatly influenced where we are in the league.

We’ve had numerous VAR decisions go against us haven’t we. But let’s look at it from a non Liverpool fan’s angle. The decisions that go in our favour makes us ‘lucky’ but those that go against us is part and parcel of the game, so get on with it. I’m sure the Carlton Cole’s of this world would agree with that assessment. Talk about double standards.

We’re Getting Very Close Now – But It’s All Because We’ve Had No Injuries Though!!!

As well as the luck, VAR and a weaker league, we should also remember we’ve had no injuries. Shame on you James Milner, Naby Keita, Joel Matip, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Dejan Lovren, Xherdan Shaqiri and Adam Lallana. Shame on you all for just skiving off for no apparent reason. Or maybe they were faking injury?

According to some expert pundits and media outlets we’ve had no injuries though. So, how do we explain their absences?

In reality though I think it’s about time some of the Liverpool haters took it on the chin and recognise that we are something special and there’s a reasonable chance our growth and improvement will be with us for even longer going forward.

Yes, we’re getting very close now. Let’s hope we don’t do a “Devon Lock” – I’m sure we won’t and let’s hope nature doesn’t conspire against us.
