Liverpool FC: Alberto Aquilani told his time at Reds is over

Alberto Aquilani’s last three years or so at Anfield has been a right “will he, won’t he” saga. So, again, it seems that Aquilani is definitely (again!!) on his way. The biggest shame is that Liverpool fans have never seen what he can really do.

He has had critics who have said that he is too lightweight for the Premier League, but in truth, he hasn’t had that much of a chance really. What we have seen of him though confirms that he is a quality player and, it seemed, would have been an ideal player to play in Brendan Rodgers preferred 4-3-3 system.

Maybe it isn’t his ability (or lack of) that ultimately pushes him out of the Anfield door, maybe it is Liverpool’s desire to get his reported £6m wages a year off the wage bill. Whatever the reason, we wish him well wherever he ends up.

We may not have seen that much of Aquilani in a Red shirt but there is no doubt that the player can play. As a reminder of what we have missed out on, take a look at some of his best moments in this short video.
