Liverpool FC midfielder Lucas Leiva eager to repay fans support

Lucas Leiva, from “Zero to Hero” as some articles have now labelled him. I’m not just saying it, but even in the days when the crowd were on his back, I was one of the minority who backed him. I think in the days when he was heavily criticised, and in fact in one midweek game at Anfield when he was booed as he came on as a substitute (I think it was against Sunderland), he was wrongly compared with Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko and Mascherano.

If ever any of those were missing, large sections of the crowd wrongly compared him with whichever of those players was missing, expecting him to be an exact “like for like” replacement. He has always been a player in his own right and the really great thing about him was that he kept his head down, never moaned and never hid. He has earned the respect of the fans the hard way and he deserves the support he is now getting.

He hasn’t scored many goals for the Reds but his worth to the team is of a high value in so many more respects. We have added a short video of his best moments in a red shirt so far below. It’s great news that he has recovered so well after his horrendous injury last season and he will be like a new signing.
