Welcome To Anfield Thiago

As the headline says, “Welcome to Anfield Thiago” – it’s great to see you here. It really is. The rumours have been rife for something like 3 months or so it seems. It wasn’t as much as a “will he, or won’t he” saga, more of a “will they, or won’t they” situation. ‘They’ of course being the club. Much has been said about Liverpool’s transfer strategy this pre-season. Or to be more precise, Liverpool’s perceived inactivity in the market.

The doomsayers on the forums were having a field day. Criticising the owners and everyone connected with incoming transfers. Funny, they haven’t been seen on the “Thiago Has Signed” thread since.

I’ve said all along and will continue to do so, we really need to trust Jurgen Klopp, his background team and, very importantly, the owners. As they have demonstrated on so many occasions now, they come up trumps. Very much the same way the team on the pitch find a way to win, our off field team are equally impressive. Let’s not forget that.

So welcome to Anfield Thiago. And it looks like there may be another quality player to follow soon.

Welcome To Anfield Thiago

Indeed a huge welcome to Anfield. You don’t me to tell you that we have just signed a really top drawer player. A player from the top tier in world football. Take a bow Michael Edwards and team. How long will it before he gets his own song or chant on The Kop. I’ve never seen that before, a Sporting Director with his own (complimentary) song or chant. I stress complimentary as doesn’t Ed Woodward have a few chants aimed at him at OT?

Anyway, Thiago. Are we all excited? We should be. Quite apart from his own incredible abilities, game management and understanding of the game, his signing gives us a whole new dimension. How many times recently have we heard some fans comment about how we’ve been ‘sussed.’ You know the sort of thing. Cancel out our full backs and that’s it – we’re nullified.

Don’t get me wrong, completely nullifying our full-backs is hard enough as they are so good. But, there have been times where they have not been as effective understandably so. It isn’t very often that you will see a right back man marked as TAA has been.

Going hand in hand with the cancelling out of the full backs have been comments about the lack of flair or inventiveness coming from midfield.

Thiago Will Provide So Many More Options

Having Thiago in the middle pulling the strings will give us so many more options. TAA man marked? No problem, we’ll go through the middle instead. Thiago is so adept at picking his way through the most compact of defences. One thought I’ve had regarding the various midfield permutations we can now call on, Thiago’s signing may bring out the best in Naby Keita. Could you imagine having a fully firing “Naby Lad” and Thiago tormenting teams!!!

Opponents will now no doubt have to go back to their own tactical drawing boards. A way to stop Liverpool when we play our more recognisable, tried and trusted way. And another drawing board for when Thiago plays. As I say, as a Liverpool fan, that is so very exciting. Once he gets settled we will have one incredible team. Yes I know we already have an incredible team. But this one will be version 2, or 3, if you like.

To remain at the pinnacle, teams have to evolve. We have just taken a step to hopefully achieve that. Manchester United in their pomp did it. Fast marauding wingers like Kanchelskis and Giggs banging crosses in initially morphing into a different approach with the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez etc.

In other words, teams cannot stand still. The doomsayers on the forums thought we had. The talk of no new signings if we didn’t act was a potentially risky strategy on the footballing front. But, a great strategy on the financial front. As usual though our off field team have got the balancing act spot on again it would seem.

Welcome To Anfield Thiago – Looking Forward To Seeing You In An LFC Shirt

Thiago will wear the number 6 shirt. But when will he wear it for the first time? Maybe Chelsea away tomorrow is too early. Who knows, Klopp may have had a look at him in training and he may have really hit the ground running. If not Chelsea tomorrow then more than likely, Thursday night against Lincoln in the League Cup. Whenever his debut is, millions of Liverpool fans will be tuned in and will be so glad that we have managed to acquire a player of such standing a such ability.  Yes indeed, “Welcome To Anfield Thiago” – it’s great to have you here.
