Reds So Close

Well what an epic match!! We came so close to pulling off an incredible victory against Chelsea earlier tonight. Having made a great start and two goals to the good I honestly thought that we were going to do it. The half time whistle came such a relief to Chelsea as they were definitely rocking and really were fortunate that they weren’t more than 2-0 down.

Early team news made us all sweat when it was revealed that Stevie G wasn’t fully fit. But to the rest of the players credit we gave a fantastic team performance without our inspirational captain. The game will certainly go down as one of the greats and for us Liverpool fans we can place it alongside our other “classiscs”.

Much was said before the game of whether we could score three goals. As it happens we scored four and still went out!! For me the turning point was Reina’s gaffe for the first goal. Up to that point we were so much in control and looked the likeliest team to score. After that goal we seemed to lose the momentum we had earlier but nevertheless we rallied with such great conviction that again at 4-3 I thought we were going to run out worthy winners.

Lampard’s second goal was when we were somewhat dis-organised as we were, understandably so, stretched as we were looking for that crucial 5th goal.

Never let anyone call us boring again though. We were magnificent on the night and we should all be so proud of our lads. Hopefully this will not have a damaging effect on our league form and we can continue to give Man Utd a fight to the end.

Thanks for the efforts boys – you did us proud. A final note on the 20th anniversary. All our thoughts go out to the families of the victims of the Hillsbrough disaster and long may we continue to seek justice. The mind boggles really at the complete disregard and disrespect shown by the Government and the South Yorkshire Police to the victims and their families. To say it is criminal doesn’t do it justice. May the 96 rest in peace.
