Roy Hodgson has recalled Michael Carrick to his England squad for Wednesday’s friendly against Italy and has also handed a number of uncapped players a chance to stake their claim in the senior set-up.
The Three Lions boss has retained just three players who started the European Championship quarter-final defeat to Italy in Kiev at the end of June – Manchester City duo Joe Hart and James Milner, plus Ashley Young.
