12th March 1921

Future Liverpool backroom Boot Room graduate and LFC manager, Joe Fagan was born on 12th March 1921. Although he wasn’t manager for that long a time – 2 years, but having said that, a Chelsea manager would probably get a testimonial if they managed 2 years – Joe Fagan packed plenty into his time as manager.

He won a fantastic treble in his first full season in 1983/84 when Liverpool won the League, the League Cup and the European Cup. A truly brilliant achievement by anyone’s standards.

Similar to Bob Paisley in a sense in that he preferred to remain in the background rather than hog the media spotlight, he went about his job as a member of the Boot Room and as manager with great dedication and professionalism.

A true Liverpool FC legend, Joe Fagan stood down immediately after the Heysel disaster European Cup Final in May 1985 to be replaced by another Anfield legend in Kenny Dalglish.
