Andy Carroll heading for Liverpool FC exit

So, it's official then. Andy Carroll has completed his season-long loan transfer to West Ham United. Although not a huge surprise I still think that it is a shame that Andy wasn't really given a chance by Brendan Rodgers, but, at the end of the day, we have to trust the manager's judgement. How often though do we fans complain about players who are apparently only motivated by money. In Andy Carroll's case though we had a player who wanted to stay and prove himself and was, it seemed, committed to the cause. Compare his attitude to that of Fernando Torres who didn't try a leg in his last 12 to 18 months at Anfield.

I only hope though we don't fall into the trap of panic buying tomorrow on the last day of the transfer window. If no-one is already lined up to replace Andy Carroll in an already depleted forward line, then it will make Carroll's departure that more baffling.

Anyway, best of luck to big Andy at West Ham. You never know, we may see him back in a red shirt at some time, although somehow I doubt it, unless of course it's another red shirt and not a Liverpool red shirt.

Andy Carroll in Liverpool FC exit

"But the reality is players want to play. Everyone knows where they stand. “One or two may have decisions to make whether they want to be a squad player or play regular football somewhere else. “But Liverpool is a great club, so players who come here …"

Andy Carroll didn't score that many goals in the red of Liverpool but he did end last season in a rich vein of form and, for all intents and purposes, he is a better player now than we bought him. It is baffling then how we could even contemplate selling a £35m player for less than half of that after turning him into a better player than when he arrived. Take a look at Andy's best LFC moments from the 2011/12 season below.
