It’s been a while since my last post, but there is some reasoning behind it. No worries, here’s a quick update. First and foremost, I hope you are all keeping well. And I also hope you are all happy with the Reds progress so far this season. It has been pretty impressive really hasn’t it. Despite all the obstacles put down. Playing in front of no fans, a huge injury list, some strange VAR decisions to say the least and players missing due to Covid-19 infections. Despite all this, what a great start to the season. Most recently we have seen Champions League progress into the knockout phase successfully negotiated. And, unlike previous years, we have done it with a game to spare.
Champions League Progress
Yes, we actually qualified after game 5. In fact we won the Group after game 5. We had a bit of a wobble in game 4 when we lost at home to Atalanta, but we sailed through ultimately. In the dead rubber on Wednesday just gone, wasn’t it great that we could field so many youngsters again. We really do potentially have some great youngsters coming through. More exciting times ahead hopefully. Yes, with Champions League progress sorted out, we can now concentrate on the Premier League until next year.
On The Premier League Front
And on the Premier League front, haven’t we done well there as well. Putting the Aston Villa hammering to one side, the results so far have been very encouraging. The performances on occasions haven’t been overly exciting but it’s the points that matter. Mind you, when we have been “on it” we have been excellent on occasions. Two recent examples spring to mind immediately. The Wolves 4-0 victory and the 3-0 against Leicester.
Again, in both these games, youngsters have been trusted. Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff really do have a brilliant structure in place. I think there were more than a few eyebrows raised for instance when Jurgen selected Caoimhin Kelleher for the last 3 games. Being honest, he didn’t really inspire that much confidence when he played in the FA Cup and the League Cup in previous seasons. But hasn’t he come on. He is now so impressive. Without a doubt he has come on leaps and bounds.
So, it goes to show. We really should always trust Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff. You still get the moaners on the club’s official website forum. Really, some of them are permanently negative. Posting like crazy when are not going so well. Nowhere to be seen when we’ve won. Anyway, enough about the moaners.
Onwards and Upwards
Onwards and upwards and all that. We’re in a good place at the moment. More youngsters being blooded and gaining some excellent, first team experience. And, in the not too distant future, some of the injury casualties coming back to fitness. TAA has just returned as has “Naby Lad” Keita. Not to far away are The Ox, Alisson, Milner and dare we hope……Thiago Alcantara.
If we are still there or thereabouts in the next month or so, and there’s no reason not to be optimistic, we will hopefully have the above players back and Thiago pulling the strings and entertaining us to the full. As the transfer window opens in a couple of weeks or so, we can go out and buy a central defender while being in a strong position. Will we buy a centre half? Again, let’s just trust Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards shall we.
Champions League Progress – Last 16 Draw Next Week
The next stage of our Champions League progress journey sees us enter the last 16 draw to be made next week. Who do we fancy? Who do we fear? To respond in that order, anyone and no one. Let’s embrace the draw and look forward to whoever we get. As for the rest of the season in the league – let’s look forward to that.
Thanks for reading my “Champions League Progress” post folks. Stay safe one and all.
