All the fans I’ve talked to about the new stadium have all expressed their desire to remain at Anfield and develop it rather than move to a new, shiny, modern style built stadium. If we moved to a new stadium at say Stanley Park, it wouldn’t sound quite right would it, “The Fields Of Stanley Park”.
Now, Fields Of Anfield Road on the other hand, not only has a certain mass appeal to it, but when sung with passion, it reflects parts of the club’s history.
“All round the Fields Of Anfield Road, where once we watched the King Kenny play…..” is not only a line of a song. It’s a statement of fact and for those of us privileged enough to have seen King Kenny play, it is also a marvellous reminder of his talents and sublime performances in a red shirt.
Hopefully the news of redeveloping Anfield will be made official soon and we can look forward to more great chapters of success to add to the many of the others we have enjoyed at our fabulous, atmospheric stadium.
“Liverpool Football Club set to stay at Anfield and redevelop current stadium. Marc Waddington · Oct 13 2012. Anfield (LFC Stadium) home ground to Liverpool FC. LIVERPOOL Football Club has decided to stay at Anfield. Well-placed ECHO sources have said …”
One of the best sights and sounds in football is to see and hear The Kop in full voice belting out Fields Of Anfield Road. Having sung it myself many times on The Kop, it is a fantastic feeling to witness the passion, the message and the volume.
