Liverpool FC: Rating the Reds in Disappointing 2-2 Draw with Manchester City

I'm not sure if I agree with the Bleacher Report's statement that it was a disappointing draw. Only the result was disappointing but certainly not the performance. Manchester City weren't that particularly good but that's what makes champions, not playing well and not losing. They are a good side though with a wealth of talent to call on and on paper at least they and Chelsea seem to have the strongest squads this season. Don't be surprised if City splash some cash between now and Friday. It is rumoured that Scott Sinclair will be signing for them tomorrow. Rosie Webster, Scott's girlfriend, back in Weatherfield perhaps!!

Liverpool certainly deserved to win the game and the impressive pressing and high work rate certainly rattled City, to the extent that Yaya Toure said it was the most difficult game he has played in since coming to England.

Very impressive performances from everyone really. Brendan Rodgers sprung a surprise by including Raheem Sterling for his first, full home league debut. It shows the confidence the manager must have in him and a testament to his own confidence levels to state that in no way did he look out of his depth. He looked the part and ran at Kolo Toure at every opportunity. Only 17 years old but a permanent fixture in the first team squad it would now seem.

Joe Allen was immense and yet again Luis Suarez was a constant threat as ever. It's just a shame his finishing is not that good. A scorer of great goals but not a great goalscorer.

City's two goals were as a result of two bad mistakes by Liverpool. Skrtel's back pass was an incredible error of judgment and many blame Kelly for the first but I think Pepe Reina was more at fault, or Martin Skrtel again. If Reina did call then Skrtel shouldn't have got a touch on it, but if Reina didn't call then again Reina has cost us an important goal.

For those who haven't seen any of the highlights of the match, check out the video below. Roll on Hearts and Arsenal on Thursday and next Sunday respectively, when we will probably get our first sight of new signing Nuri Sahin in action in a red shirt.
