Liverpool reached their first major European Final, but there was disappointment as Liverpool lost to Borussia Dortmund in the European Cup Winners Cup Final at Hampden Park, before a crowd of 41,657. Liverpool had previously beaten Celtic over two legs before a combined attendance of more than 130,000 in the semi-final but goals from Reinhard Libuda and Siegfried Held gave Borussia Dortmund a 2-1 victory, with Roger Hunt replying for Liverpool five minutes after Held’s opener.
